MJEM Archives – A living legacy
The Mediterranean Journal of Emergency Medicine (MJEM) was founded in 2009 as part of a broader movement to structure and advance emergency medicine in Lebanon and the region. At a time when the specialty was emerging, MJEM aimed to raise awareness within the healthcare sector and to provide a scientific platform for the dissemination of research, clinical knowledge, and policy-oriented discussions.
This initiative was closely aligned with the efforts of the Lebanese Society of Emergency Medicine (LSEM), whose recommendations helped shape the development of the field. It naturally coincided with the establishment of the first Emergency Medicine residency program in Lebanon in 2009–2010, marking a key step in the recognition and institutionalization of the specialty.
MJEM was also, at its core, a story of friendship. Its creation was made possible through the close bond between Dr. Nagi Souaiby and the late Dr. Jean-Claude Deslandes, both shaped by the same academic lineage in Montpellier under Professor Louis Serre. Their shared vision and mutual support gave MJEM its initial momentum and enduring spirit.
Following the Beirut port explosion, MJEM evolved into Panorama of Emergency Medicine (PoEM), not as a new journal, but as its direct continuation, carrying forward the same mission with an expanded scope and international outlook.
Today, we are proud to launch the MJEM Archives, a dedicated space where all issues published between 2009 and 2020 are freely accessible. This archive preserves an important chapter in the history of emergency medicine in the region and reflects the foundations upon which PoEM continues to grow.
